More than a third of Isle au Haut voters turn out for the annual town meeting, passing all 76 warrant articles. CSD 13 school board seeks an increase in taxpayer support to offset a reduction in state aid. And Deer Isle part-time residents particpate in the 127th Boston Marathon with help from a local physical therapist.

The community speaks out at a school safety forum facilitated by CSD 13 Superintendent Dan Ross to address recently raised issues of bullying and harassment. A proposed bill that would set aside funds to pay lobstermen to test new fishing technologies receives support at a public hearing before the Legislature’s Committee on Marine Resources. And the CSD 13 school board expects to approve the 2023-24 school budget May 8. 

Island Workforce Housing opens applications for new two-bedroom apartments in Deer Isle designed to house year-round Island workers and their families. Virginia Olsen testifies on Capitol Hill on behalf of Maine Lobstering Union Local 207 to advocate against the rollback of the six-year pause on new lobstering rules. And two GOP-sponsored lobster bills intended to protect Maine’s lobstering industry did not get the support needed to reach Maine’s Legislature this year. 

Planned demolition and replacement of the Mill Hill bridge, also known as the Holt Pond or South Deer Isle bridge, is set to begin May 1 and will close Route 15 for the summer. Stonington’s select board approves an economic resiliency plan. And CSD 13 Superintendent Dan Ross invites the community to attend a forum later this month to address complaints about student behavior at the island’s schools.

Deer Isle’s select board weighs options for adding solar energy to save money and reduce the town’s carbon footprint. The Opera House Arts board remains silent in response to questions of staff turnover after the recent departure of its executive director. And the Island Nursing Home board offers new details on its progress as a follow-up to the March 29 Island Nursing Home community meeting.
