In this issue

Juxtapoz Magazine is proud to close out its 25th year with one of our most wide-ranging issues we have ever published! For issue Fall 2019, issue 211, we are excited to showcase a cover story on Baltimore-born, Brooklyn-based fine artist, Derrick Adams. The Fall 2019 issue feels like an ideal companion to this overarching camaraderie and authenticity. To have our founder, Robert Williams, featured for his newest works and show, alongside Derrick Adams, who has emerged over the past five years as one of the most exciting painters of his generation, is a perfect example. That Naudline Pierre and Alicia McCarthy are pages away from each other, Anna Park and Tomoo Gokita as well—it's not a passing of the baton, but finding ways to build a kinship between the generations, no matter where they are in their respective careers. That is what we have been striving for since 1994, and in the Fall of 2019, we savor the momentum.

Derrick Adams Be Who You Want To Be

Do you think when Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see,” he imagined a Black artist changing the world by creating a visual landscape where Black people are anything they want to be and everything they’re told they cannot be? Was Gandhi talking about Derrick Adams?

Robert Williams - The God Father

That rakish raconteur of the art world, founder of Juxtapoz, and Zap Comix denizen, Robert Williams, is coming to the Boomburg of Bellevue, Washington, for a retrospective of his life’s work on October 4th, wielding a rich and meaty, 12” by 15” companion catalog from Fantagraphics Books.

We Will Walk Right Up To The Sun

We all fantasize about travel, but the process of coming and going isn’t always the stuffof dreams. Instead of Departure and Arrival, how cool to be greeted by a work of art! And doubly wonderful if it is made by an artist who was the subject of an ode. In Dear Sarah, poet Bernadette Meyer describes Cain’s work, “Like seeing a rainbow in the middle of the forest.”
