This May issue is the start of a 3 exclusive series till our anniversary issue in September where it is an extension of each cover through the issues. Each issue will also focus on the 3 key pillars that SSIA has stood for – Strengthening and Growing Local Ecosystem, Sustainability, and Talent Development.

We have been seeing a slowdown in the semiconductor market for the past half year. That being said, several companies have begun to see the light at the end of this tunnel. In recent months, we have seen advancements in the AI space, such as ChatGPT and several other technological introductions. These will all spur demands for chips, and, hopefully, we will start to see an improvement in our market situation. Despite this uncertainty, we must not forget to continue investing in developing our talent pool and continuing to work towards building a more resilient supply chain for our business.

We hope that companies will seize these opportunities that we have created for the 55th anniversary of the industry. With this in mind, we must not rest on our laurels and continue to develop our talent pool and strengthen our social compact. SSIA will continue to organize platforms such as the Semiconductor Women's Forum — in its third iteration on March 9, 2023-to demonstrate the concerted efforts by the industry to embrace a culture of diversity and inclusion as part of growing the talent pipeline; to inspire and attract more female talent to join and thrive in our industry.

While the road ahead will not be easy, we have braved many storms before as an industry in solidarity. With this spirit, we stand together as one voice, one ecosystem, and one people.

DEVELOPING TALENTS FOR AN ELECTRIFYING FUTURE — As we wrapped up a year of highs and lows in 2022, there are still a lot of uncertainties that abound globally as we start off the year. Around the world, there are signs that the global economy is projected to face strong headwinds: mounting energy costs, geopolitical tensions, rising inflation and disruption in supply chains.

Through these challenges, building a strong robust talent pool remains top of mind. With about 2000 jobs expected to be created in the next three to five years in our sector, the burning question will be where and how do develop these talents and to retain them. More importantly, besides mid-career switchers, the aim of most companies is to steer the youth as their career of choice.

This issue of VOICE Magazine coincides with SSIA's Electronics Industry Day 2023, and focuses on the talent of tomorrow.
