Magazine Description

In this issue

Like the art world, all our eyes are on Asia. Fronting this issue of BAZAAR Art is none other than Yayoi Kusama, who has 12 of her works in the MoMA collection and is so sought after that she has four exhibitions showing globally this year. Also making her mark is Singaporean artist Yi Lin Juliana Ong, who is set on reinterpreting ancient artefacts from China in her modern, graphic way. As for noted Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei, we find out how he is continuing to make waves and adding filmmaker to his name in a digital exclusive story found on page 11. There, Ai reveals how he's taking on some of the world's harshest critics in Hollywood with his latest project, The Human Flow, a documentary about the global refugee crisis, which he has spent the last year shooting across Germany, Afrika, Greece, Israel and Turkey. Zooming back in on Asia, we discover how filipino artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan are influenced by migration and displacement; asked seven Asian artists to put their own spin on Singaporean icons for this issue on page 20; and catch up with Hu Qiren, the winner of the inaugural BAZAAR Art Prize. Another special for our digital readers is The Fashionable Life with fashion designer and art collector, Andrew Gn.
