BRAINS and BRAWN. Spotted hyenas are bucking the trend for large carnivores being decline. The spotted hyena is dog-like in appearance. Spotted hyenas live in clans and frequently hunt in groups. Cooperation can improve the hunting success of spotted hyenas – but this depends on prey availability.
