For the uninitiated, “23” is a prime number — which means, Men’s Folio is celebrating our 23rd anniversary with the Prime issue. Staying relevant for 23 years is no easy feat, but the Men’s Folio brand always kept its main objective and guide — bringing Asian talents to the forefront. Challenged by the treatment of Western lens as the key benchmark in fashion, the editorial team found traction with a unique taste nonetheless. Then came the J-wave, the tidal rise of Chinese spending on luxury goods to today’s K-mania — Men’s Folio has been through it all and remained steadfast in our goals. This October, the Men’s Folio brand (Singapore and Malaysia) welcomes the Vietnam edition, joining us in our efforts to foreground the greater things that Asia has to offer. Men’s Folio is written, styled, photographed, edited and produced for local readers. In this issue, the team contextualised in-depth interviews with leaders of iconic brands who are responsible for creating a sense of style for the modern man — Pierre Hardy for Hermès (page 32) and Andrea Pompilio for Onitsuka Tiger (page 34). We also take a closer look at the prime modus operandi of some of the largest fashion players today — Saint Laurent (page 26), Fendi (page 28) and Dior (page 36) — and a special spread that showcases their prime (“first”) bags on page 40. The Prime Issue also sees the birth of the inaugural Men’s Folio Blue Ribbon Awards that celebrates outstanding timepiece releases of the year (page 45). While a good pair of shoes can easily complete an outfit, no man should neglect the watch — a prime accessory. Jeremy Lin, the first Asian-American basketball player to gain international success shares his journey and the pressures he has had to face while bearing the clout (page 52).
