The most exacting definition for “Loud and Proud” is fleshed out by contributor ArChan Chan on page 42 – being able to speak up on what one thinks is meaningful and impactful while being self-confident and appreciative of one’s flaws and positives.

The Men’s Folio team set out to explore this theme because our April issues were – and still are – traditionally dedicated to accessories. Menswear accessories have transcended practicality to become the flashiest items men don. They have been promoted to integral components of an outfit, rather than optional items.

While the outlook of accessories has been refocused, many of the season’s best accessories still retain their practical purpose, as seen in fashion stylist and writer Manfred Lu’s accessories spread that highlights their inspiration from everyday occurrence (page 28) and his very first full fashion spread about a man obsessed with bags (page 58).

As the Men’s Folio team explored the theme, It morphed into a conversation about being aware of one’s self-identity. Cover star, Jasper Liu, epitomises the quality by unabashedly sharing insights to his journey to becoming one of the most demanded actors in the region (page 48).

Footwear brand Clarks purports to be the first company to invent desert boots in 1950. Men’s Folio joins in its 70th anniversary celebrations with a group of talented men – Gentle Bones, Alyph, and Axel Brizzy – on page 44 to explore what it means to hone a craft to perfection.

The Loud and Proud Issue is dropping on newsstands in the most trying period of the last decade with many nations closing their borders in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Men’s Folio hope to bring readers entertainment and optimism in this gloom – a reminder that everyone’s essence is worthy of being recognised, loudly and proudly.
