Editor/fashion director Wilson Lim was looking forward to working on this Cinematic Issue so much so that he was already conceptualising the fashion spread while closing last month’s issue – inspired by clowns since their costumes can sometimes be an exaggeration of what is fashionable (page 82).

The other spread by stylist Belda Chung features leading male archetypes (page 32) in cinema. Dressing the models for these roles, we come to the realisation that we are all suckers for stereotypes.

Speaking of stereotypes, contributing writer Rachel Ong shared her opinions about our unforgiving stance towards artistes in the local entertainment industry (page 58). What is it about our one-track minds that define their success by how popular they are overseas? Cover star, Benjamin Kheng (page 70), seems to have overcome this with his legions of local fans without having to prove his mettle by being a success outside of Singapore first. His charming good looks might be a factor, but it is hard to say no to the undeniable passion that shines through his work.
