There are so much the Men's Folio team holds close to our hearts this year, and
our gratitudes are overflowing as the year comes to a close. The enthusiastic
support from encouraging readers and the talented contributions from
selfless collaborators have made every step of our journey profoundly meaningful.
The challenges we have navigated have become stepping stones to learn and grow,
and we're genuinely grateful for them.

There is always room to be different — to act upon our greatest desires, slip into the uncomfortable, and perhaps ignore the rules just for once. Wise words we applied for this November '23 issue — made up of ideas we once scraped, initially removed by the team for fear that not many would understand the premise. Some of them were centred around alternative personalities in Malaysia, while others sought to grapple a different approach to how we view local and international fashion. I used to believe the time was not yet right for Men’s Folio Malaysia to be seen as anything but quintessentially classic. After all, its memory amongst Malaysians embraces subtle fashion nuance and a certain maturity.

Fashion has always been intrigued by duality. The idea that two seemingly conflicting elements can converge to create something entirely new has always been its sheer driving force. Covering all of its bases through design and styling, it is a theme that transcends all aspects of dress that has played a significant role in its evolution.

The universe began with a bang, not any ordinary one but a big one.
Scientists theorised it as the Big Bang — a hot, dense and infinitely
small point, known as a singularity, rapidly expanded in a massive
explosion approximately 13.8 billion years ago. This expansion caused
the universe to cool and allowed matter and energy to form, eventually
forming galaxies, stars and planets.

In many ways, how things are today mirrors the Big Bang. Societies,
institutions and beliefs began as a theory, a concentration of ideas, and
even hopes and dreams before being brought to life through action and

This month, SonaOne graced our cover wearing the OMEGA Speedmaster ‘57 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 40.5 MM watch. "The way I approach the creative process of writing music, the way that I dress, the messages and stories that I touch on are all an extension of who I am, and if you spend enough time listening to my works, you’d have a good sense of the person I am, as well as the journey I took to get here," he said during the photo shoot.

“Fashion will always be one of the most important things in my personal and professional life. I love fashion for as long as I can remember. Currently, I’m obsessed with oversized pieces and striking colours. My favourite brands at the moment are Onitsuka Tiger, Prada, Dior, Fendi, Versace, Gucci, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, Bonia, Rizman Ruzaini and Kitwoo,” said Hael. Donned head to toe in items from Onitsuka Tiger’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Themed “Young Heroes”, we not only restlessly cast around for individuals, but also brands that are bold and venturesome. On the cover, we have raising Malaysian stars Meerqeen and Zhen Ning, with Montblanc 1858 GMT Automatic Date and Montblanc Extreme 3.0 thin document case. “Despite [our] different backgrounds, languages and religions, we respect each another as equal; that’s easier said than done,” said Meerqeen in the interview. “I’m proud to be a Malaysian because there’s a multitude of rich cultures that connects everyone. And then, of course, there’s the wide range of local cuisines that guarantee to tickle the taste buds!” Zhen Ning added.

Actor Hisyam Hamid graced our cover this month wearing the new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver watch. When asked what does he take pride in the most, Hisyam replied: “Discipline and professionalism. Since day one, I’ve been telling myself that whenever I work with a new production house, I have to make them feel that, ‘Hey, it was easy to work with Hisyam’. I also make it a point to tell myself that others may beat me in terms of acting or popularity but I will never let them beat me when it comes to having good self-discipline,” he said.

Overall, I travelled and worked a lot on projects that I really believe in,” said Barnet about his experiences this year, and added, “I recently fell in love with surfing and fell back in love with boxing. I’m also brushing up on my Japanese.”

Fronting our November cover is Joseph Yeap – donning an ensemble from the much talked about Dior x Sacai capsule collection. If we have to expound on why Yeap is a deserving winner of the Men’s Folio Model Search 2020 contest, I believe that all our judges would agree that it was because they noticed his sincere yet intense and fervent attitude toward modelling, which made him a serious contender right from the start.

2PM’s JUN. K and Chansung graced our cover wearing pieces from the Aria collection from Gucci – the luxury Italian brand is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month. “HOTTEST are the biggest motivation for me [to return]. They make us become us. I hope that I can return their love as much as they gave us,” said JUN. K. “Returning the love and would like to thank our fans who always stay beside us and wait for us with good results,” Chansung continued.
