For the NZ golfing fan, this time of the year is like "Golf Christmas" when all of the best players across the country and from Australia and Asia descend on Queenstown for the next episode in the 101 ep series of the New Zealand Open.

And it's been a lean one for local hopes in recent years. Only Mike Hendry has been able to stem the flow of international raiders flying in and taking off with the Brodie Breeze Trophy in the last 16 years.

And Hendry is back to try again this year buoyed by his recent second place in the Australian PGA and he is joined by Ryan Fox who has started the year with a bang and says its probably the one tournament he would like to win more than any other.

Our merry band of writers have every angle covered of the NZ Open this year including a look back by Peter Thornton to those players that have used their Victory in New Zealand to springboard their careers.

We also have an insightful piece by Mike Wilson about the state of golf in Asia and as the coronavirus starts to affect events there, this story is truly a microscope on whether golf in Asia is equipped to tackle an issue such as that.

We also have a lovely story about New Zealand's own Amelia Garvey who has been invited to Augusta National to play in a major amateur event before The Masters this year, we meet Geoff Sewell who has sung for some of the most famous people in the world but admits his passion lies with golf and Warwick Neilson takes us on an amazing journey through the golf resorts on the famous Vietnam Golf Coast with some truly stunning photography.

Of course, we have all of the wonderful regular sections including getting tips from the best coaches in the country, we find out how players are selected for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games and give you the heads up on what you need to know for the new handicap rules that come into play in April.
