The world of cinema marries so many forms of creativity — from styling to sound design, to name a couple — that it is hard to pinpoint what makes good cinema good. Which is why we are honouring this rich form of the arts for our March issue. We start with our cover story featuring Win Metawin, all dressed in Prada. He is no stranger to the silver screen, and we learn about his journey in show business through the eyes of his fans.  Next, we present timepieces that share a connection with cinema. Besides being movie stars in their own right, these watches also fall into specific niches — one example being TAG Heuer and motorsports. Sometimes, the movies inspire the watch design itself, as shown in Franck Muller’s watches. Even writing instruments can pay tribute to the wonderful world of cinema. Brands like Montblanc have dedicated entire collections to cinematic influences, from the East to the West, and from the olden days to the present. What is also worth remembering is that we each have our own stories to live, making us the main characters of our own movies. Ah, February, the month of love. The Lunar New Year has just passed, spirits are high, and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. And so we explore the theme of “Itulah Sayang”, which translates to “That Is Love”. The thing about love is that it has many facets, depending on where you look from. As such, we have our cover story of the month featuring Jes Jespipat, adorned with a selection of masterpieces by Grand Seiko, sharing about the ways love manifests itself. In terms of romance, we have our fashion shoot taken in the idyllic paddy fields of Malaysia. In a separate story, we also take a quick gander at timepieces that can be worn by both him and her.

I used to believe the time was not yet right for Men’s Folio Malaysia to be seen as anything but quintessentially classic. After all, its memory amongst Malaysians embraces subtle fashion nuance and a certain maturity.

Fashion has always been intrigued by duality. The idea that two seemingly conflicting elements can converge to create something entirely new has always been its sheer driving force. Covering all of its bases through design and styling, it is a theme that transcends all aspects of dress that has played a significant role in its evolution.

The universe began with a bang, not any ordinary one but a big one.
Scientists theorised it as the Big Bang — a hot, dense and infinitely
small point, known as a singularity, rapidly expanded in a massive
explosion approximately 13.8 billion years ago. This expansion caused
the universe to cool and allowed matter and energy to form, eventually
forming galaxies, stars and planets.

This month, SonaOne graced our cover wearing the OMEGA Speedmaster ‘57 Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 40.5 MM watch. "The way I approach the creative process of writing music, the way that I dress, the messages and stories that I touch on are all an extension of who I am, and if you spend enough time listening to my works, you’d have a good sense of the person I am, as well as the journey I took to get here," he said during the photo shoot.

“Fashion will always be one of the most important things in my personal and professional life. I love fashion for as long as I can remember. Currently, I’m obsessed with oversized pieces and striking colours. My favourite brands at the moment are Onitsuka Tiger, Prada, Dior, Fendi, Versace, Gucci, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, Bonia, Rizman Ruzaini and Kitwoo,” said Hael. Donned head to toe in items from Onitsuka Tiger’s Autumn/Winter 2022 collection.

Themed “Young Heroes”, we not only restlessly cast around for individuals, but also brands that are bold and venturesome. On the cover, we have raising Malaysian stars Meerqeen and Zhen Ning, with Montblanc 1858 GMT Automatic Date and Montblanc Extreme 3.0 thin document case. “Despite [our] different backgrounds, languages and religions, we respect each another as equal; that’s easier said than done,” said Meerqeen in the interview. “I’m proud to be a Malaysian because there’s a multitude of rich cultures that connects everyone. And then, of course, there’s the wide range of local cuisines that guarantee to tickle the taste buds!” Zhen Ning added.

Actor Hisyam Hamid graced our cover this month wearing the new Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver watch. When asked what does he take pride in the most, Hisyam replied: “Discipline and professionalism. Since day one, I’ve been telling myself that whenever I work with a new production house, I have to make them feel that, ‘Hey, it was easy to work with Hisyam’. I also make it a point to tell myself that others may beat me in terms of acting or popularity but I will never let them beat me when it comes to having good self-discipline,” he said.
