Biden breaks Obama’s record for most votes for any US presidential candidate Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has received the most votes for any presidential candidate in US history. With more than 72 million votes so far, Biden has broken the record previously set by former President Barack Obama, who received about 69.5 million votes in 2008. Votes for Biden represented 50.4% of the total number of votes counted so far. When Trump lost the popular vote but won the Electoral College four years ago, he amassed 62,984,828 votes or 46.09 percent of those cast. Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, amassed 65,853,514 votes, which was 48.18 percent of the popular vote.
