The past couple of weeks have seen a continuous onslaught of rain, drenching the entire country for a much-needed respite from the sweltering heat of the Indian summers. However the incessant rains have caused heaps of trouble for people, giving rise to problems like water logging, traffic jams, and potholes among other things. Delhi-NCR region along with other metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Bangalore bore the brunt of shoddy infrastructure, as roads gave away to death-threatening potholes and drains that got logged to create mini swimming pools on roads. The passivity with which this was all accepted just speaks volumes about the work of the concerned authorities, who prefer to play the blame-game than owning up to their mistakes. In spite of all these troubles the country got something to rejoice about with the Rio Olympics keeping people engrossed. With the largest ever contingent ever sent by the country, people are hopeful to see some exemplary performances this year by the Indian athletes. Hopes are pinned on the shoulders of star performers, while new entrants especially Deepa Karmakar- the first Indian female gymnast to represent the country in the Olympics- got rousing support from an entire nation. Appreciation and support for the Indian athletes are pouring from every section of the society, with the entire country basking in the drama and excitement that typifies the Olympics. The glory of the Olympics and India’s performance at the games has been explored in this issue, with us taking you down the history lane of a country’s rise to prominence in the sporting world. The following pages also include a one-on-one interview with the very beautiful and talented Adah Sharma, who created a stir in Bollywood with her stellar performance in her debut film.
