In this issue

Sanitation generally refers to principles, practices, provisions, and services related to cleanliness and hygiene in personal and public life for the protection and promotion of human health and well-being. It is also related to the principles and practices relating to the collection, treatment, removal, and disposal of human excreta, household waste, and other pollutants. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that sanitation generally refers to the provision of facilities and services for the safe disposal of human urine and faeces. Inadequate sanitation is a major cause of diseases worldwide and improving sanitation is known to have a significant beneficial impact on health, both in households and across communities. The word ‘sanitation’ also refers to the maintenance of hygienic conditions, through services such as garbage collection and waste disposal. Dr Mohammad Isa Ansari tells us more on this issue.
