Like all good things, this year comes to an end with this final month of chill wrapped in coziness and warmth. We are all set to usher in 2015 with a host of new surprises. As the year ends, the mood to party and set out for a vacation begins. In Nomad we have tossed up a detailed list of all the party destinations that are a must visit for this time of the year. You have quite some options to make a choice.
December is also a significant for Punjabi literature and heritage. Our cover story ‘A Wronged Mother Tongue’ presents Punjabi writers who silently worked towards making us aware about our culture. They made the depth and richness in Punjabi language and Sikh religion available through, his writings and compositions. It is for the efforts made by Bhai Vir Singh that Punjabi has a strong literary standing. We dedicate Virsa to this man, fondly known as ‘Father of Modern Punjabi Literature’, who was born on December 5. Virsa showcases the legend that Bhai Vir Singh was and how his philosophy and writings are being preserved by Delhi Sadan.
That was a look at the past. Does it reflect on our present? Are we really valuing what Bhai Vir Singh and many other doyens of Punjabi literature have given us? Do we believe in carrying on their legacy? Or is our own culture and language fading out? Shouldn’t knowing our own language be a matter of pride? Cinema also shares the story of this land of Gurus filled with prayerfulness. It brings to the fore how Punjab has many tales like Chaar Sahibzaade that need to be narrated, and with as much precision and finesse as Harry Baweja has attempted.
