The govt decision of reversing its August order of bringing
gems and jewellery dealers under the purview of the
reporting requirement of the Prevention of Money
Laundering Act (PMLA) was a big relief to the jewellers.
Another good news for the industry exemption of IGST on gold
imports which allows banks and 5 canalising agencies, including
MMTC, MSTC to import gold without paying 3 per cent Integrated
Goods and Service Tax (IGST). It is again an appreciated move as it
will smoothen the process of import.
Kerala’s appetite for gold is known all and it is the golden hub of the
country housed with iconic jewellery retail brands. It was an honour
to co-organise Kerala Jewellery Show with the renowned association
of Kerala, the AKGSMA. It is just the first edition and looking
forward to more editions.
