दिल्ली की देहरी पर किसानों ने डेरा डाला हुआ है. संसद में कथित रूप से हड़बड़ी में पारित किए गए कृषि कानूनों को लेकर किसान आंदोलित हैं. इतनी गरमागर्मी के बावजूद संसद का शीतकालीन सत्र बुलाया ही नहीं गया. मिनी संसद मानी जाने वाली संसदीय समितियों में भी राजनैतिक विभाजन बढ़ता दिख रहा है. इस बीच विधानसभाओं के पीठासीन अधिकारियों की तटस्थतानिष्पक्षता पर भी बार-बार सवाल उठे हैं, खासकर दलबदल कानून से जुड़े फैसलों को लेकर. दुनिया के सबसे बड़े लोकतंत्र भारत की संसद के निचले सदन लोकसभा के अध्यक्ष होने के नाते ओम बिरला का इन मुद्दों से गहरा वास्ता है. राजस्थान के कोटा संसदीय क्षेत्र से दूसरी बार सांसद और संसदीय समितियों से जुड़े रहे बिरला सदनों की कार्यवाही सुचारु रूप से चलाए जाने को लेकर भी फिक्रमंद हैं. इंडिया टुडे के संपादक अंशुमान तिवारी और असिस्टेंट एडिटर सुजीत ठाकुर के साथ ऐसे कई मसलों पर उन्होंने सुचिंतित ढंग से बातचीत की. सदनों की कार्यवाही लगातार बाधित होने के संदर्भ में उनका सुझाव था कि कार्यवाही चलने की न्यूनतम समयसीमा तय होनी चाहिए. प्रस्तुत हैं उनसे बातचीत के प्रमुख अंशः
