Our cover story this month is a definitive list of all the new cars and motorcycles that will be launched in India over the next 12 months or so including facelifts, concepts we saw at the Auto Expo hitting the production even brand debuts. Our first drive section features the soon-to-be-launched BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe that will become the most affordable BMW in India once it goes on sale. Also sharing space with the 2 Series is the India-bound Skoda Octavia facelift but in its plug-in hybrid avatar. Our road tests this month feature the refreshed Jaguar XE going head-to-head with the all-new BMW 3 Series in a two-way fight for sports sedan supremacy. The May issues of Auto Today is packed with features including a detailed summer car and bike car guide in which we share tips to keep your beloved vehicles in tip-top shape. We’ve put together years of road testing data to compile a segment-wise list of the most comfortable cars you can buy in India. Our European editor heads into the wilderness with a 4x4 Peugeot van accompanied by a friend astride the made-in-India Royal Enfield Himalayan while closer to home, we head out to explore Delhi and its most iconic locales with the all-new Hyundai Creta. And if you thought that the First Drive section features just two cars, well, think again as we bring you quick reviews of the best cars from the World Car Awards LD Drives. For those who prefer two-wheels to four, there is a very interesting feature on turning a humble moped into a scrambler for your reading pleasure. As always, there are all the latest updates from the Indian and international automotive scene including a round-up of all that the automotive industry has done to assist the world in tackling the coronavirus pandemic and updates on our long term fleet. Enjoy the March issue of Auto Today and happy motoring until next month.

Japanese & German The odd couple

When BMW and Toyota announced their intention of collaborating on four areas about eight years back, one of the areas identified for working together was, in the words of their joint press release, to set-up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports car. Toyota needed an inline-6 engine to re-introduce the Supra while BMW wanted to restrict costs. Although the initial idea was to maximise on the commonality of parts, once the platform with a 1.55 ratio of wheelbase to tread was decided for the roadster and the sports coupe, both went their own ways on further developments including the tune of the engine. The resultant is the fifth-generation GR Supra and the third generation Z4

The fraternal twins

Both Hyundai and Kia have in the past year launched their largest-ever SUVs, primarily for the US market, and named them for towns in the US state of Colorado, Palisade and Telluride. While both the SUVs share the same underpinnings and the same drivetrain, they look remarkably different both on the inside and the outside. We drove them both back to back on the same LA Test Drives route and are excited that they may be launched in India sometime in the future
