Veteran cinematographer Johny Lal, known for his work in films like 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein' and 'MujheKucchKehna Hai', passed away at his home in Mumbai on April 21 due to COVID-19 related complications. Several celebrities, including Madhavan and Tusshar Kapoor, condoled the demise of Johny. "The Saga of tragedies continues...Your gentleness...and brilliance will be missed," Madhavan said.

• COVID-19 related curbs announced in several states in the wake of a sharp rise in infection cases will lead to a permanent closure of businesses and millions of job losses, the Retailers Association of India (RAI) has warned. "Shutting down non-essential or non-food retail and malls is not the solution," the Association further said.

A man was arrested in the US for allegedly setting a fire in December 2020 that destroyed a predominantly Black church in Massachusetts. He is also accused of slashing car tires in the area and was identified in part through video taken from a Tesla vehicle's camera. The footage showed the man crouching near the Tesla and removing its wheels.

•Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos in his final letter to shareholders as CEO said the company needs to do a better job for its employees. The outgoing CEO said that news reports sometimes accuse Amazon employees "of being desperate souls and treated as robots". He added, "That's not accurate. They're sophisticated and thoughtful people who have options for where to work."

A video has surfaced online wherein a man from Maharashtra is seen pleading for a hospital bed for his COVID-19 positive father, saying, "Give him a bed, or kill him with an injection". He visited several hospitals in Maharashtra and Telangana to get his father admitted without success. He said oxygen was running out in the ambulance carrying his father.

• South Korean Ryu Hyunsoo, who describes himself as "LG phone maniac", said it's "sad to see a friend leaving" now that LG has announced its exit from mobile phone business. The 53-year-old said he "went all in" on LG phones due to its audio. Ryu collected 90 LG devices over 23 years. He said he plans to use them "forever".

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has banned meal services on flights of durations shorter than two hours with effect from Thursday, in view of a rise in coronavirus cases. The order comes on a day when India recorded 1.68 lakh new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, marking the country's biggest single-day rise in cases since the pandemic began.

Himachal Pradesh government on Sunday made COVID-19 negative RT-PCR test reports mandatory for visitors from six states and the Union Territory of Delhi, amid a rise in infections in the country. The reports are mandatory for people travelling to Himachal from Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The rule comes into effect after April 16.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to states, announcing that COVID-19 vaccinations will be allowed in workplaces as "substantial population aged 45 years and above are in the organised sector of the economy". The sessions will be held at workplaces with 100 willing beneficiaries. The states have been asked to prepare for Work Place Vaccination launch by April 11.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said that according to doctors, in the current wave of coronavirus, the "virus spreads rapidly but is less severe". He added that the state government will soon launch micro-containment zones in areas with two or three coronavirus patients. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said that there were no plans for a lockdown.

• Donald Trump's former bodyguard has revealed the former US President still owes him $130 for cheeseburgers he bought for Trump in 2008. Kevin McKay, who was fired in 2012, said he is shocked Trump forgot to pay back the money. Trump asked McKay to buy the burgers as he was heading to Aberdeen airport in northeast Scotland.

A Mumbai court granted bail to a 20-year-old man, booked for raping and impregnating a minor after a DNA report revealed that he is not the biological father of the child born to the victim. The man's career would be spoilt if he is jailed with criminals, the court stated. She had earlier sought money for abortion, the accused said.

• Former actress Somy Ali, in an interview with Zoom, said, "It's been 20 years since I broke up with Salman Khan. He cheated on me and I broke up with him and left." Asked whether she learnt anything from Salman, Somy added, "Not a single thing from Salman, but I learned a lot of good things from his parents."

NCP President Sharad Pawar was on Tuesday admitted to a Mumbai hospital after experiencing abdominal pain. "Our party chief Sharad Pawar was supposed to be admitted in hospital for endoscopy and surgery procedure tomorrow, but since he is experiencing some pain again in the abdomen, he is admitted in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai today," Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik said

• Three Army personnel lost their lives and five were injured on Thursday when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned and caught fire in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, police said. "Five injured soldiers managed to come out of the vehicle but three were trapped inside it and died," Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Tiwari said.

• Singer Demi Lovato, in her YouTube documentary 'Dancing with the Devil', has opened up about her drug overdose in 2018. "I did drugs I'd never done before...I tried meth. I mixed it with molly, with coke, weed, alcohol, OxyContin. That alone should've killed me," she stated. Demi said she had not expected to overdose by smoking the drugs

• Arrested former police official Sachin Vaze is a key conspirator in the Mansukh Hiren death case, Maharashtra ATS chief Jaijeet Singh has said. Vaze was working in connivance with another suspended police official Vinayak Shinde and they destroyed evidence such as SIM cards and CCTV footage, Singh said. ATS will seek Vaze's custody from NIA, he added.

 Actress Rimi Sen, who participated in Bigg Boss 9, said she did the show only for money. "They paid me around Rs 2.25 crore for 49 days...Nobody can earn this much money in such...short time," she added. "I knew...I have come for money and I have to behave good and go out with a good image which I did," said Rimi.

A day after Maharashtra witnessed the highest spike in daily COVID-19 cases, CM Uddhav Thackeray said, "I see lockdown as an option going ahead." He added, "But I trust people of the state to cooperate (and follow the COVID-19 norms voluntarily) like the last time." He also appealed to people to get vaccinated against the virus without fear.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that once Supreme Court delivers its final verdict on the issue of women's entry in the Sabarimala shrine, only then the state will decide on the matter. He added that his government will consult all believers, including those who have a difference in opinion. "Everything is going well...No need to discuss Sabarimala now," he said

• A day after Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze was named Investigating Officer in the Antilia bomb scare case, his Mumbai Police team visited his housing society and took possession of all CCTV footage, according to reports. The reports claimed that the team reluctantly gave a written request to access the footage. Vaze has been accused in Mansukh Hiren's alleged murder

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday ruled out an "attack" on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she was injured while campaigning in Nandigram, reported ANI. The ECI said the decision was based on a report by the state's observers and the chief secretary. Banerjee had claimed that four to five people had pushed her.
