PrintWeek Awards shortlist in October issue of PrintWeek

Scheduled for 2 November at Grand Hyatt, Santacruz East in Mumbai, the acclaimed PrintWeek Awards returns this year with renewed vigour, especially after a hiatus of two years owing to the pandemic.

As PrintWeek readies for the big Award night, 26 Jury members of the PrintWeek Awards 2022 studied the thousands of entries received from 112 print firms and packaging converters across India on 28 September. After much debate and deliberation, we have compiled the list of finalists in each category. 

The award samples this year make one thing clear: Record number of award entries give industry a boost. Read the Jury Day report on how innovative ideas are finding favour among India printers in the October issue of PrintWeek.

PrintWeek September issue focuses on rising demand for books.

Books are back in business. This is the takeaway from the cover story of the September issue of PrintWeek, which proclaims that domestic demand for books has never been so good. 

The cover story includes an interview with Nilesh Dhankani of Quarterfold Printabilities and a profile on CDC Printers, plus a feature on the JCB Prize longlist. 

A rising star of the industry, Nilesh Dhankani, the founder and CEO tells Ramu Ramanathan how the company has added a Hiline double tower web, a 16-page web press, a Komori Lithrone L437 plus a repeat order of a Lithrone GL437 to its press hall; along with Bindwell kit to bolster its post-press line. 

Meanwhile, Manu Choudhury of CDC Printers asserts that there are major growth opportunities in books, packaging, and advertising materials, and the Kolkata-based printer is prepared to take it all in.

The Case Study section highlights how three printers from North India have invested in MGI Jetvarnish to differentiate their product offerings after the pandemic. 

When the dust of the Covid-19 pandemic was settling, Upadhyay Colour Copier found it the best time to invest in MGI JetVarnish and Accurio Shine 101 machines. Six months down the line, it is reaping rich dividends.

PrintWeek attended the New Delhi edition of Media Expo on 1-3 September, and found that with the festival season approaching the OOH segment is optimistic of the future. 

The exhibition this year was smaller compared to the pre-pandemic days, but the products on display and the industry participation was enough to signal an optimistic outlook for the OOH segment.

August issue of PrintWeek and WhatPackaging? is available now

Industry emerges as the winner, as growth returns to the fore. This is PrintWeek’s verdict on the industry outlook for the last six months, which the cover story of the August issue of PrintWeek explores.

PrintWeek mapped 234 firms across the country in order to understand the current capacity utilisation rate in the industry. The findings were – 90% capacity utilisation in packaging, 85% in book printing, 50% in labels, and 120% capacity utilisation in tags.

With 1 August being celebrated as Paper Day, the August issue features an in-depth piece on the turmoil in the paper turf. PR Ray explains how the paper industry has faced drastic changes since the beginning of 2020 and how it is essential that we understand and appreciate these dynamics of change for our benefit, so we can tune our activities accordingly to deliver optimum results.

In the Profile section, Janhavi Sisodia charts Vikram Printers’ journey into the packaging industry in its new avatar Ugar Labels. It’s only been two years, but the brand awareness exercise has boosted Ugar’s reputation and has raised its profile.
