The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League has set the temperature soaring and it is a perfect time to look back at its decade-long journey. When the BCCI announced the launch of a new T20 league in late 2007, it was a foray into an unknown world, where nobody knew where this journey would go. The slam bang version of the game had just taken a big step in India with the Men in Blue winning the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. However, the IPL managed to catch the attention of the cricket world and beyond. Entrepreneurs and Bollywood celebrities started shelling out money to buy franchises and splurging more to buy the biggest names in the player's auctions. The new era was about to start. It broke all the TV rating records in the first edition itself. The 2013 spot-fixing scandal somewhat shook the league, but the league bounced back stronger. The IPL inspired the Big Bash League in Australia and the Caribbean Premier League in West Indies and eve set a benchmark for other leagues in the world. Pretty much like IPL, the Indian team too has enjoyed success over the years but the most recent home season was a phenomenal one. The team defeated strong contingents like England, New Zealand and Australia. From players and management perspective, everyone played their respective role with perfection and ensured that the team ended on the winning side.
