This year, Architecture+Design marks its 43rd anniversary. For over four decades, the magazine has been witness to the shifting language of design in India. We’ve documented the rise of modernism, the return to craft, the embrace of technology, and the redefinition of what “home” and “workplace” mean across generations. In witnessing this evolution, we’ve learned that design is never static. It is edited, refined, and reimagined, much like the pages you hold now. This Issue brings with it as much excitement as apprehension. Excitement, because the field is more pluralistic, more dynamic than at any point in our history. The design scene in India has never been so vibrant. Apprehension, because it reflects the paradox of plenty. With the volume of exceptional design interventions, curation becomes a formidable responsibility rather than a straightforward selection. This moment, therefore, is not simply celebratory. It is analytical, even emotionally taxing at times. A+D Top 50 is not just a ranking of supremacy in design, but a testimony to dynamic world of Indian design. Milestones deserve meaning.
