Sustainability is at the core of our belief system at Alcobuzz. Right from the decision to make this a ‘digital only’ magazine, to taking active steps to reduce our carbon footprints, we are constantly trying to better ourselves. Hence it's apt that our very first issue focuses on Sustainability.
We have done a bit of travelling with this issue as well. From Japan to Bali to Langkawi, we have tried to sneak a peek into the drinking cultures and enigmatic stories. Closer home, we even went to Yacht & Gokul to bring the dive bar experience to you.
January 2020 has already been an exciting month with so many new launches and events. These are exciting times indeed.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I sit down to write this, is THANK YOU! Alcobuzz is Asia’s leading digital magazine on alco-beverages. It’s owned and led by a woman. And in this issue we see so many wonderful women who are leading the way. It is now a community in it’s true sense and we managed to do that in such a short span of time

It is wonderful, to say the least. So many amazing women from all walks of life coming forward to show solidarity and support. This is quite unprecedented.

So here we are with an ALL WOMEN power-packed issue of HENTAILS SPECIAL EDITION. Yes, every single article is about women taking charge and leading the way. It is the most inspiring edition of Alcobuzz till date.

Right from Ada Coleman who is regarded as one of the first women behind a professional bar, to all the aspiring young bartenders of today, women have crossed hurdles and prejudices.
Every aspect of Alco-beverage and nightlife, be it bar owners, brands, marketing heads, sommeliers, bartenders, editors, women have demonstrated their prowess in what was traditionally a boys only club.

There is finally a ray of sunshine after months of uncertainty. Businesses and bars are slowly opening up and the community is getting back on its feet. This doesn’t mean the pandemic has ended, we just need to find our ‘New Normal’ and proceed with caution.

Under ‘Local Tipple’ we revisit the gems from Bordi and their beautiful range of sparkling alcoholic beverages made with fresh fruits of the region.

It’s my favourite season!
Rains are always a metaphor for washing away all the negativity and now more than ever, we need a good cleanse.
Rains also bring with them the bounty of lush greenery and pleasant weather. So this month we have introduced a seasonal playlist to listen to while you sip on your drinks by the window or in the balcony.
Speaking of drinks, this month I have listed down my favourite stouts by popular demand. I hope all you hop heads enjoy this list. Do let me know your favourites that I should try next.
This edition also has a unique 'Local Tipple’ section this month. We deep dive into Mumbai's Koli community and sneak a peek into their fascinating drinking culture.
Keeping your health and seasonal sniffles in mind, we have also compiled a list of drinks that you should 'give a shot’ to drive away cold and cough. My favourite has always been my grandmother’s 'kaadha' with a dash of cognac or brandy, but I don't mind a shot of Jäger once in a while.

The most colourful month is here, and so is our most colourful edition!
In these times, it is so refreshing to see the rainbow truly representing EQUALITY and ACCEPTANCE.
Although this should have been a given, we must not forget that it was only recently (September 2018 to be precise) that the Indian Govt declared that people from LGBTQ+ community had constitutional rights, including liberties protected by the Constitution of India. Well, better late than never. We still have a long way to go.
This issue is out in June to mark the Stonewall riots in New York, US
wherein a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969. That incident is said to be the first milestone in the fight for equality.
In this issue we have spoken to a few members of the LGBTQ+ community to understand what’s it like to work in the alco-bev industry. We have also looked at some of the brands being supportive with unique colourful bottling.

Another month of fighting, surviving and kicking ass.
I know this lockdown and pandemic hasn’t been easy, but for those of us sitting at home, safe & sound, its worth a million blessings. Like I said last month, bringing out an edition at a time like this seems preposterous, but it is the will that is mightier than the negativity that surrounds us.

Since the future seems hazy at this point in time, we decided why not look back, at simpler times. When we could meet our friends at bars, when our beloved spirits bore fruit after years of hard labour and when weekends were still looked forward to.

This issue almost did not happen !!
With a global pandemic at our doorsteps and we safely locked behind the doors, it felt almost preposterous to talk about anything else at this hour. Our team mulled over various things like overconsumption, mental heath and our role as a publication before we ventured out with this issue.
Our agenda since the very beginning was singular. To promote fine drinking and create awareness about responsible drinking. There is no better time than now to do that.
So here you have it - our Quarantine Special edition. This has been our most positive edition yet. We hope it inspires you, encourages you to be productive and look at the brighter side of life.

A day to celebrate women is never enough!
Women are like good wine (or scotch, if you’d prefer), nuanced, layered and definitely each to her own. All we can hope is to understand a few notes and appreciate what we have got.
Thats what we have tried to do in this Women’s Special Edition to mark International Women’s Day on 8th March 2020.
As cliched as it may sound, it is never easy to talk about women. And I say so being one myself. So this time we have let some men do the talking. We asked some of the top bartenders to dedicate their favourite cocktails to women who have inspired them. Heartening to see, how their mothers feature on the top.
Moving on to travel, we explore some of the best places across Asia where women can travel, safely, either solo or with friends.
This month we also have special articles on wine and off the track travel stories to Myanmar by our guest editors, Gargi and Daisy respectively.
March is a fascinating month. It marks the beginning of summer and everything is in full bloom, including your spirits.
So make the most of the outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather with the drinks of your choice.

The Month of Love
Love starts with gratitude. A big thank you for the resounding success of the first edition of the magazine in January. We knew we had hit upon something special when we read all the positive feedback you sent us. Thank you!
After traveling and living across the world, there is something about Goa that draws me. It has all the things I love - the people, the food and most of all the local spirits. Hence it’s apt that we do a Goa special this month. The stories of Goa in this edition feel almost like a personal essay of sorts as they are filled with my favourite secret (and not so secret) spots.
There is so much more we could talk about with regards to Goa, but sadly we had to pick a select few. Notable absentees are Paul John & Goa Brewing Co, which we will talk about in detail in our future editions.
Apart from Goa, we have two major events coming up. First one is Speyside Whisky Awards, one of the oldest whisky festivals in the world, is coming to India for the first time. The other is Sisterhood Soiree that celebrates women in nightlife industry. Alcobuzz is proud to be onboard as the magazine partner for both these events.
