Desh 17 December 2021 issue focuses on the tradition and future of Bengali theatre. It all started as a protest against British imperialism, gradually becoming a revolutionary weapon for any sociopolitical issue. It has made an immense contribution towards Bengal’s intellectual aura, in spite of producing only a few dramatic texts of international repute. In the aftermath of the pandemic and with the growing popularity of OTT, will the world of theatre remain a viable place for experimentation and a strong collective cultural space? The issue comprises essays by Shamik Bandyopadhyay, Shekhar Samaddar and Subrata Ghosh. There is an essay by Simantini Bhattacharya on the history of vaccination in India. The issue also carries a travelogue on Himachal Pradesh by Abhishek Ghoshal and other regular sections like the serialized nonfiction ‘Naxalbarinama’ by Ashim Chattopadhyay, the serialized novel ‘Lochandas Shabdakar’ by Bimal Lama, ‘Jiban Jerakam’ by Sumit Mitra, Mantabya, Granthalok, Shilpo Sanskriti, Galpo, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc.
