Desh 2 July issue shines a light on Bengali poets and songwriters who have largely been forgotten. In spite of the works of these stalwarts being metaphorically alive in our collective consciousness, the tragedy lies in the fact that they have not received the public attention they deserve. They claimed individuality in their compositions and were eloquent about social-existential cares, interwoven with allusions to local and national issues. Their works are remarkably significant in the development of the Bengali cultural ethos. These litterateurs deserve to be resurrected and celebrated, not buried in oblivion. This issue comprises essays by Peetam Sengupta, Suman Gun, Aveek Chattopadhyay, Subhashis Chakraborty and Shubhabrata Bandyopadhyay. The issue also carries an anthology of poems by Subodh Sarkar and regular sections like the serialized novels Kanchanfuler Kobi by Masud Ahmad and Udhatakani Chittani by Sutapa Basu, Mantabya, Granthalok, Shilpo Sanskriti, Galpo, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc.
