Desh 17 February 2022 issue pays tribute to India’s very own nightingale, the queen of melody Lata Mangeshkar. She dominated the Indian musical landscape for seven decades and sang in more than thirty-six languages, bridging barriers of community. She became the soundtrack for generations, her voice being the crucible of our emotions and sentiments. In her singing, billions of Indians become kindred, connected and alive. The issue comprises essays by Sumit Mitra and Shubhabrata Bandyopadhyay. There is an essay by Purab Pal on cancer in the Covid-19 era. Serialization of ‘Udhotkani Chittani’, a new novel by Sutapa Basu begins in this issue.
