Desh 17 April, 2021 issue focuses on the disappearing sense of contemporary Bengali identity. While we continue to be stuck in a time-warp, reminiscing about our illustrious past, the gap between our inherited culture and the social reality of today is growing wider. We are now hardly interested in cultivating our own culture and language beyond the superficial level, even as the Bengali language rapidly loses relevance and gets mutated beyond recognition. The issue comprises essays by Tirthankar Das Purakayastha, Abhra Basu, Raka Dasgupta and Hindol Bhattacharya. There is an essay by Shashthipada Chattopadhyay, recounting his extensive travels across the country. The issue also carries other regular sections like the serialized nonfiction ‘Naxalbarinama’ by Ashim Chattopadhyay, the serialized novel ‘Prabhu Amar Priyo’ by Nirmalya Mukhopadhyay, ‘Jiban Jerakam’ by Sumit Mitra, Mantabya, Granthalok, Shilpo Sanskriti, Galpo, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc.
