Taking the spotlight is none other than Ryan Gorrett’s Scania T-cab. It’s an unusual truck, to say the least – and the story of how it has evolved at the family firm of D&F Super Cranes makes for very interesting reading.

But this T-cab isn’t the only headline-grabbing truck we have in store – another is DSL Commercial’s mighty DAF XG+, which carries the Royal Mail logo thanks to its work collecting the postal company’s trailers for repair. It’s a fine new flagship that’s had loads of bells and whistles added (not literally, that would be weird).

Also of note is Thompson Transport’s big-power TGXs. Packing meaty 15-litre D38s, the Irish fleet has won awards for its trucks and the operator is a staunch supporter of MAN.

Elsewhere this month, Dougie has been out for a week road-testing one of Shuttleworth’s manual XF dairy tankers. It’s Team T&D regular Joe Ashton’s truck and working it has certainly been an eye-opener – but how did the stick-shifting DAF hold up in Dougie’s hands? Find out inside!

Welcome to our bumper sized 2024 Scania special! The June issue of Truck & Driver is packed with ‘Super’ Scanias from retro classics to the very latest models, from small to large, rigid and articulated.

Editor’s Choice is an unusual Scania R530 V8 drawbar outfit which is as striking as it is versatile. Progressing through the issue, we take the new 13-litre flagship 560S and put it to the test for a week. Hello and welcome to the digital edition of T&D, as the year draws to a close and we enter the festive period we wish you and your family all the best and thank you for your support throughout 2022. We’ve got another cracking selection of trucks for you to enjoy.

Our Editor’s Choice is WH Malcolm’s stunning Scania R560 show truck, which showcases a number of bespoke modifications. Built to the highest of standards, the truck had previously worked hard pulling low loaders for the firm’s construction division.

Another impressive fleet flagship is the gorgeous blue Volvo FH16 750 from the rapidly expanding Lion’s Logistics. It’s a real head turner while also proving an excellent choice for the work they do. Another impressive FH16 is the final truck driven by the late Mick “The Beast” Goddard of TS Transport, who pay tribute to the hugely popular and much missed driver.

We’ve got a double helping of Renault Range-T High 520 Evolutions too, as we pay a visit to Barclay Transport in the Scottish Highlands and Wilson McCurdy Jnr in Northern Ireland. Both excellent examples of a truck that’s really come of age with the latest revisions.

Owner-drivers are the life blood of T&D and we’re delighted to have our Team T&D contributor Russell Oliver in the spotlight as he and his partner Louise have made the leap to running their own trucks successfully with a pair of smart Scania R450s. Hard graft but the rewards are there if you work for them.

Meanwhile we take a look at some fairground trucks along with a classic Scania 111, and Peter Davies opens up a new series “Then and Now” focussing on how some fleets have evolved over the years.

Not ony that there’s a truck racing update, a diary from Paul O’Callaghan’s latest Euro adventures and Cameron Allan returns to Team T&D. Paul’s also been to the epic Truckstar Assen show and we’ve got some cracking pics from there.

Welcome to the digital edition of T&D! There’s more trucker memories this month too with a look back at time spent working at BRS from John Podgorski.

The Cumbria Charity Truck Fair raised over £43,600 for charity this year and we’ve got the lowdown from a fantastic event. Meanwhile in Team T&D Paul O’Callaghan heads to the Retro Truck Show at Gaydon and Niall Barker goes to the Pennine Run in his new ERF EC14.

Hello and welcome to the September issue of T&D digital edition. We’ve got a great mix of stuff for you to enjoy this month and we’re delighted to have some excellent new Renault Range-Ts from Bennett’s as Editor’s Choice. There are more great new trucks to read about too, from CH Bird’s impressive new Daf XG+ and Nicwood’s flagship Daf XF Super Space. 

We also went to see Davis Track Hire who run a fleet of mainly drawbar crane trucks installing portable roadway. They’ve also fitted a complete welfare pod on each of the trucks, with shower, toilet and drying room! For fans of older trucks, check out the Newis heavy haul Volvos, 20 years old and still powering on. There’s a further treat for Volvo fans with the F12 of Hymas in Yorkshire. 

As the show season has been in full swing there’s the impressive Dunstable Charity Convoy, classics from Gaydon and Kelsall Steam Rally. We’ve started a new feature as well, turning the spotlight on transport photographers, with first in line being Gary Chatterton.

There’s also an epic long haul diary from Murray Grant as he takes his Scania S730 all the way to Morocco in Africa and back. There’s plenty more to great stuff here too in your new T&D. 


The August 22 edition of T&D, supplied to you here in digital format is a cracker! It’s definitely one of our better efforts. Even if we do say so ourselves and with the caveat that they’re all good efforts. It’s been a busy month, with only three weeks to put this issue together. Due to Covid related issues, much of the content in this one was originally destined for the Summer issue, but it’s here now and it was definitely worth waiting for!

As always, we kick things off with Editor’s Choice and we’re delighted to have Scottish livestock specialists RW Stewart in the spotlight, we speak to three drivers along with boss Alan Stewart and check out their all-Scania V8 fleet.

The new generation MAN TGX has been proving popular, and some of the best examples on the road now can be found at Alan Glendinning of Penrith. They run an all-TGX fleet, with a mix of 500 and 510hp tractor units providing strong performance and economy. Alan recently added a top-of-the-range 640hp flagship to the roster as well. We get the low-down on the lot!

That’s FIVE superb independent, family-run haulier features for you – and there’s much, much more as well! Bob Beech compares Volvo’s high tech, high torque, low revs Turbo Compound 460 to a standard model 460 with a new FH and FM. We went to the Daf Driver Challenge to see a a set of enthusiastic truckers put to the test both on the road and off it, with the winner heading to Europe for a grand final. Editor’s Choice takes us to South Wales, where we meet a trio of smart Volvo FH from GW Recovery who specialise in moving mobile access platforms. That’s the first of many features we’re bringing you as a result of our endeavours at Convoy Cymru in May!
Celebrating their 25th anniversary is McCann Transport of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, this is a great story that started off with a single Ford Transit. Latest addition to the fleet is an impressive Iveco S-Way 480.
We’ve got a pair of features focussing on drivers “on the job”, we spend a day with Ray and his immaculate Daf CF 4x2 and rear steer trailer as he goes multi-dropping with catering supplies in Dublin. Jessica Grainger then tells us all about how a move onto agency work has worked out really well for her and describes a week driving artics and rigids. Also, in Team T&D Paul O’Callaghan tackles a tricky mission to Portugal with dodgy directions and tiny roads leading him to places an artic never usually goes!
Now, we do like some stories from days gone by and have an enormous amount of respect for veteran drivers in T&D so you’ll find seven pages dedicated to some of Stoke on Trent’s finest truckers, where Nick Garlick paid a visit to a special Potteries reunion.
There’s a trio of tremendous Scania V8s to enjoy as well, with Ray McFarland’s great fleet cutting an impressive dash on low-loader work.

Hello and welcome to the T&D July 22 digital edition. The new Daf range is making waves, and in this issue we take a look at the new XF alongside a “classic” XF Super Space at Burns Haulage Contractors. Away up in the north of Scotland we travel to deliver a brand new MAN TGX 640 to Kinlochbervie Fish Selling. Also in Scotland there’s the Grampian Truck Show which was a roaring success! We’ve got a great driver’s diary from Northern Irish owner-operator Ashley, who has some tricky choices to make hauling a boat back from France. 

In Wales we went to the first ever Convoy Cymru at Pembrey, it was scorching, the show trucks were great – overall a top show! Paul O’Callaghan writes the story of two great mates in Ireland who run a pair of Volvo FH16s, and in Team T&D he drives some big mental wood chipper thing back from Germany that’s got a massive MAN engine and about 800hp. Nice. Niall Barker spends a week on chocolate tankers in Team T&D too. New contributor Sam Clayton gives us his verdict on a fleet spec but still quite posh really MAN TGX 470.
