We certainly have a varied issue filled with some great articles, including our cover star this month - Alun Heslop’s stunning sculptural bench, which is made using bleached oak and aims to evoke the feeling of shifting sands. He shares the secrets behind the build as well as the technical processes he used – including the M&Ms; test!
In terms of the projects we have in store for you, expect to see a hanging guitar stand, which is approachable as well as incredibly useful, as well as a great idea for making use of workshop offcuts – a lovely foot stool for tired feet. With spring on the horizon, our workshop storage boxes will ensure your bits and bobs stay neat and tidy, and how about some tips for rejuvenating an old plane? If you fancy a challenge then you’ll love Matthew White’s segmented wooden cryptex build, and for the turners among us, Les Thorne’s classic cake stand will certainly whet your appetite (for turning and cakes!)
Peter Bishop gets technical as he moves on to looking at the subject of lathes in his beginners’ series; Peter Sefton and his students learn about the hand cutting of dovetails and use these new-found skills to make a small chestnut letter rack, and Dennis Keeling takes us through the steps for making a space-saving corner dressing table unit using CNC routing techniques.
