Right, now let's take a brief look at what we have lined up for you in the February 2022 issue of RCM&E.

Starting with our regulars, in his Bench Blog column Tim Hooper covers and glazes his elegant Answer vintage model. In Scale Gliding, Chris Williams returns to White Sheet Down for another scale event before handing over to Frank Skilbeck for his report from the Sherlowe and Milson aerotow meetings. Next, we say a hearty 'welcome back' to Danny Fenton as he resumes his Make It Scale column by picking up on the final covering of his DB Auster project. Over next to Alex Whittaker, to wrap things up in Weekenders; this time he looks at a range of 3D items made by other modellers but manages to talk his way out of adding a 3D printer to his shed tools. Let's see how long he can hold out!

For our pull-out Pro-Plan this month we once again hand over to Tony Nijhius as he presents his second 'Midi Jet' for 70mm electric ducted fan units. This time Tony offers up his striking 36-inch span Hawker Hunter.

On review, David Ashby takes a look at a one metre wingspan A-10 micro jet that hails from a new brand, XFly-Model distributed by CML. Lee Smalley then offers us a user's view of the new Ethos operating system built into FrSky's X20S radio set. Wrapping up our reviews this month is that man again, Frank Skilbeck, with his assessment of Century UK's Pro-Build variant of the agile Double Trouble biplane.
For his Model Magic walkaround, Alex Whittaker takes his camera on a tour of a fine P-47 Thunderbolt owned by Malcolm Wood. John Stennard then describes his club's addiction to Airbugs and other R/C hovercraft, which have become at big draw at winter indoor meetings. We then return to Alex W for his take on this year's wet and windy Ashbourne fly-in.

Peter Miller is the designer of March issue's pull-out Pro-Plan. This time Peter offers us his Team Minimax, a 1/6th scale ultra-light aircraft of 32.5" wingspan. Yours truly kicks off this month's reviews with an assessment of XFly-Model's delightful Twin Nova for twin electric power. David Ashby revels in the performance of two new handy sized EDF scale jets from Arrows, a stylish silver T-33 and a classic all-red BAE Hawk. To wrap up our reviews Mike Freeman heads for the hills to put Vogel-Fly's diminutive 800mm BOO glider through its paces, complete with its eye-catching geodetic wing. For his latest Model Magic walkaround Alex Whittaker looks at a new scale masterpiece from Ian Bryant, his Zlin Z-526 AFS Akrobat. In a similar vein, Geoff Graves describes his shared build with much missed RR clubmate Derek Martin of their mighty Waco YMF-5 biplane. We then rejoin Alex W as he travels to far West

On review, David Ashby looks at a new powered glider from Arrows, based on the sleek Polish SZD-54 soarer. If a full build is more your cup of tea then take a look at the Cloud Dancer, supplied to Roy Thompson by 4-Max Models.
This month's scale Model Magic walkaround is dedicated to Harry Curzon's neat take on the Boulton Paul Defiant 'turret fighter'. Peter Miller then goes on to reveal the twisted story of his Insanity project, which, despite its bizarre appearance, is actually a fine flying model. We then return to Alex W for his take on the Pontefract Single Channel meeting before Phil Cooke takes over as event reporter to cover the stunning collection of PSSA Mass Build F-86 Sabres that were amassed recently on The Great Orme in North Wales.


Starting with our regular columns, Tim Hooper returns with Bench Blog, in which he builds a larger version of The Answer, a favourite vintage model, for his Indian Mills diesel engine. Chris Williams returns to his favourite slope soaring venue at White Sheet Down to report from the WSRFC's August Scale Day, before Alex Whittaker finishes things off with more shedly tales in Weekenders, including a clubmate's conversion to 2.4GHz (well, his radio at least!), finding a long lost Spatman kit and, inspired by the Bowman model's name, how to fix spats to a model's undercarriage.
Tony Nijhuis returns to the Pro-Plan slot with the first in a new series of 'Midi' size jets using 70mm Electric Ducted Fan units. This time he offers up a 33-inch span Folland Gnat.
On review, David Ashby takes a liking to Max-Thrust's Pro-Built Balsa Ruckus, whilst the Editor assembles another fast build EDF jet from new kids on the block, XFly-Model. This time it's the turn of their red tail T-7A Red Hawk. Fingers crossed, we may also have space for a few suggestions for Christmas gifts for aeromodellers to show to your nearest and dearest!
As usual our feature articles start with a scale walkaround accompanied by Alex Whittaker; this month Alex pores over Keith Pyrah's mighty 156" span Luscombe Silvaire. We then take a look at Jeff Barringer's sleek Bugatti 100P, a 1930s design that looks futuristic even today! Alex W returns to Buckminster to report from their Warbirds meeting before handing over to Kevin Powling, who describes a model that would have been very welcome at the BMFA's National Centre, his new Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun. Andy Sephton wraps things up nicely with a 'how to' feature on using Deluxe Eze-Kote to finish his Phase 6 slope soarer.

On review is the Wasabi, a potent F3F glider from Aviatik Composites in Slovakia, which is given a thorough flying test by top French pilot Pierre Rondel. Feature articles this month include Alex Whittaker's walk around of Karl Mander's mighty 114-inch span DH103 Hornet, the lesser-known successor to the De Havilland Mosquito. Alex also chronicles past Ashbourne Scale Fly-in events, a popular fixture in the Peak District for scale modellers of all skill levels. Another 70mm EDF Hawker Hunter takes to the skies, this time an enlarged version of the Tony Nijhuis RCM&E free plan, which has been blown up by Cliff Whittaker.

First of our regular columns this time around is Retro Ramblings, in which Shaun Garrity explores several vintage themed topics, starting with transforming some 'bring & buy' bargains into practical everyday flying machines. In Aerobatic Scene, Keith Jackson describes 'Flight Coach', which uses the latest tracking technology to map a pattern model's flight and compare it to perfectly shaped manoeuvres, whilst in Weekenders our Alex shows how to make a perfect 'chevron' splice to extend the length of balsa sheets. Danny Fenton follows up with more DB Auster build notes in Make It Scale, and Mark Wood makes a welcome return as our Power Play engine columnist with the first part of a review of the SH GF-6 petrol engine.
Our main Pro-Plan is the second instalment of Rusty Ferguson, in which we bring you the wing drawings for Lindsay Todd's pseudo crop duster, which he designed for a .60 - .70 four stroke engine.
This month we have a couple of cracking reviews for you, starting with the first part of Andy Sephton's article on the VQ Models P-51B Mustang. As a full-size warbird pilot, we are especially looking forward to Andy's flight assessment of this Razorback version of the famous US fighter, but you'll have to wait just a bit longer for Andy to complete his flight trials (darned Covid again!) Whilst you wait please luxuriate in David Ashby's big balsa build of the vintage style Sinbad electric glider, a 2.5 metre span re-imagining of the 62-inch Super Sinbad kit originally made by Berkeley Models in the USA.
Part review, part model product 'How To' is probably the best way to describe Stuart Marsden article on covering with Eze Dope, in which he uses a VMC Sparrowhawk rubber kit to show how to get the best from this modern-day alternative to cellulose dope.

On the cover this month is an exquisite Miles Gemini of 118” in span which was originally powered by two Super Tigre glow motors. At the time of Alex's photo shoot the Gemini was under the custodianship of noted scale modeller Steve Woodhead. She was on long term loan from the secretive (and reclusive) ‘Spartacus’.
