In this issue
Our May issue is all about home improvements, full of inspiration and expert advice. Firstly we showcase a transformed Limerick cottage which adopts the ‘Healthy Flowing Homes’ approach. Then we ask architect Neil Mathews for his expert advice on the trends for clients choosing to renovate their home as opposed to searching for a bigger property. Considerations for ventilation in energy efficient homes is discussed. We give three kitchen designers the challenge of designing a new kitchen and see their creative results. Joanna Gaines’ new book Homebody, offers a guide to creating spaces you’ll never want to leave. Then we look at several before and after projects and discuss the trends shaping the home improvements market in 2019. And finally in this home improvements section we offer you ideas and tips on painting and decorating your home with a selection of new colours, wallpapers and curtains.
Our readers’ homes this issue are all very different, but equally beautiful. We travel to Ardclough, County Kildare to visit Ciara and Harvey who have bought and restored a run down old school house. Further north, John has created his own old-style new build using contemporary style open-plan living combined with his reclaimed furniture. And then to Dublin, where Declan has transformed a tiny dated terrace cottage into a bright, spacious, modern home providing him with plenty of wall space to display his colourful artwork. Our travel features take us off to the perfect explorers destination of Peru in South America and closer to home we visit Athlone in the heart of Ireland, situated near the shore of Lough Ree. Try out the four delicious recipes we share from Dan Toombs cookbook, The Curry Guy, Veggie, which has over 100 vegetarian dishes to make at home. Finally, our gardening expert Deirdre talks about the many different varieties of ornamental grasses which can add colour and texture to any planted border.
Healthy Flowing Homes
Finding her cottage hard to sell, architect Patti O’Neill took a step back and developed the Healthy Flowing Homes approach which transformed the desirability of her home.
