This month’s Auto Italia is full of unique surprises. On UK roads, there’s just one Alfa Romeo Crosswagon Q4 (the all-wheel drive Alfa 156), and we’ve driven it, putting in back-to-back with an almost equally rare 33 4x4, 159 Q4 and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of Ferrari and to celebrate we’ve plenty about Prancing Horses in this month’s issue. History seems to be repeating this month, as we feature a string of cars that mingle past and present. We have several new ‘restomods’ – including a modern Ferrari 250 GT Breadvan, a 21st century Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and a rebooted Ferrari 250 GT SWB – plus a memorable encounter with the exquisite Alfa-engined Effeffe Berlinetta. We also compare and contrast the two most exotic cars of the early 1960s: Ferrari 500 Superfast and Maserati 5000 GT Allemano. Tested this month is a very rare Alfa 75 Turbo QV limited edition, while a freshly restored Abarth Simca 1300 ‘Longnose’ gets its first UK shakedown. Alfa Romeo’s carbon-chassis 4C is a true junior supercar – but does it have the potential to become a senior supercar? Imagine a Ferrari so secret that not even the factory at Maranello knew about it. That’s the incredible story of Pininfarina’s Ferrari Testarossa-based F90, built for the Brunei royal family, that we’re able to tell exclusively this month. If the F90 represents one Ferrari extreme, accessible Ferraris are also represented this month, with a bumper guide to the V8s and V12s you should consider if you have a budget of £40,000 to £60,000. The Alfasud was famously Alfa Romeo’s first ever front-wheel drive car, but this month we have a story on an all-wheel drive one: the incredible twin-engined Alfasud Bimotore. Another sporty mid-1970s Italian is profiled, too, with the Fiat 131 Sport/Racing, while Fiat’s new 500X Sport gets a road test outing. Rare Italian metal this month includes the V8-powered Intermeccanica Italia and Cisitalias and more from jet-age designer, Giovanni Savonuzzi. And despite everything, we’ve been out and about at as many events as we could get to as well!

Three hundred issues of Auto Italia – that’s the happy landmark we’re celebrating this month with a bumper issue that includes our favourite ever Ferrari features and each of our writers’ personal highlights over 25 years. Our main story this month is a mega-Maserati group test of the best modern coupes, from Ghibli Cup to 3200 Assetto Corsa and GranSport MC Victory to GranTurismo MC Stradale.
