What are the best engines ever conceived in Italy? That’s the question we’re attempting to answer in a major two-part feature. This month it’s engines from two to six cylinders, and we’ve nominated a stellar congregation: Fiat-Abarth 595, Lancia integrale twin cam, Alfa GTV ‘Nord’, Fiat Coupé 20v Turbo and Alfa 147 GTA V6 Busso. We also ask another big question this month: was it Ferrari and Pininfarina or Lamborghini and Bertone that triumphed in the epic battle for design supremacy that ran from 1965 to 1980, from Miura to Berlinetta Boxer?
