It was 50 years ago that Ferrari put its first V8 engine in a road car - a great reason to celebrate with four generations of V8 Ferraris, from 308 GT4 to SF90. Two classic car group tests make this month’s Auto Italia unmissable. It’s a truly huge moment for Ferrari this month, as our cover hints: the Purosangue is touted as a ‘true’ Ferrari, but is it really? It’s mid-engine month at Auto Italia. As the amazing Bertone Lancia HF Stratos Zero hits UK soil, we reflect on its significance in design history. This month’s Auto Italia is full of unique surprises. On UK roads, there’s just one Alfa Romeo Crosswagon Q4 (the all-wheel drive Alfa 156), and we’ve driven it, putting in back-to-back with an almost equally rare 33 4x4, 159 Q4 and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. You could say we’re doing a ‘double Drogo’ this month with two Drogo-themed Ferraris. Richard Heseltine writes about the infamous Ferrari 250 GTO Breadvan, which was the star of the Prescott Italia hillclimb, which also features this month. Our second ‘Drogo’ Ferrari is a superb Allegretti-bodied 250 GT. 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of Ferrari and to celebrate we’ve plenty about Prancing Horses in this month’s issue. Not only do we have a full road and track test of the new 296 GTB – Ferrari’s first ever V6 road car – but we do a run-down of the 75 greatest cars ever made at Maranello.
