Accidents in the country’s gas and electricity supply systems are often taking place. Sometimes the mishaps lead to serious consequences. The explosion in a Narayanganj mosque is just a recent example of such deadly incidents. Some 33 people were killed and some others suffered severe burn injuries due to the fire incident in the mosque. The accident occurred allegedly due to gas leakage from an unauthorized line and its accumulation in the mosque, followed by an electricity spark also from an illegal connection. Experts say most of the accidents that happened in the energy systems due to unauthorized or illegal connections, among other reasons. They repeatedly recommended stopping the illegal connections, but it has not yet been possible to do so. Now, the experts came up with a new suggestion for the authorities concerned – adopting smart technologies that can detect the faults in the gas or electricity lines immediately and take quick-response initiative to correct the faults. These smart systems are expected to help reduce the untoward incidents in the energy supply systems and mitigate the loss of lives and properties.
