DIE KEUSE IS JOUNE . . .

Soms gebeur daar dinge waaroor jy geen beheer het nie, maar jy kan nog altyd kies hoe jy daarop reageer. As ‘n botteltjie konfyt sou uitval wanneer jy die yskasdeur oopmaak en dit in skerwe op die kombuisvloer breek, met glas en konfyt wat in alle rigtings gespat het, is daar ‘n breukdeel van ‘n sekonde wanneer jy kan besluit hoe om te reageer. As jy besef dis maar net gravitasie wat te sterk was, sal dit waarskynlik vyf minute neem om die gemors skoon te maak. As jy woedend en luidkeels jou huismense en sommer die wêreld blameer, begin jou dag op die verkeerde voet en sal dit heel moontlik die res van jou dag omkrap.

Emigrasie is nie maklik nie, maar dit is jou keuse hoe om dit te verwerk. In hierdie uitgawe gesels ons met inspirerende vroue wat die trauma van emigrasie oorkom het en nou ‘n positiewe bydrae tot hul gemeenskap lewer. Sukses het nie oornag gebeur nie, maar hul volgehoue deursettingsvermoë is uiteindelik beloon.

Kinders word op verskillende vlakke deur migrasie beïnvloed. UNICEF het ‘n studie gemaak van migrantefamilies in welvarende lande (waarvan Australië een was) en gevind dat ‘n derde van die Australiese kinderbevolking uit migrantekinders bestaan. Hierdie kinders woon gewoonlik saam met ouers wat universiteitsgrade verwerf het en meer as die helfte van hierdie kinders se ma’s werk in die arbeidsmark. Merise berig oor verskillende wyses hoe jy jou kind kan help om by sy nuwe lewe aan te pas.

The ascending aircraft is symbolic of her desire to reach for the stars. Even her name is symbolic. By dividing the word in two, you get “me rise”, accentuating her desire to make improvements to herself and her life.
It is important for Merise to support her friends, not just newcomers, but all expats in Australia and New Zealand who left their homeland to find new means of livelihood “Down Under”.
Merise lends a hand in almost every way. She’s been through the immigration process and experienced it all first hand. She is thoroughly aware of difficulties that may arise for both newcomers and experienced expats and knows how to overcome, or should we say “survive”, these difficulties.
Merise is vivacious and enthusiastic and lives her life in her new country to the full. She loves exploring and is always on the lookout for new challenges and new experiences. At the same time she enjoys sharing her experiences with her friends, always encouraging and inspiring them.
Merise is fully bilingual and she has English- as well as Afrikaans-speaking friends. She divides her time equally between the two groups of friends and shares the same information with both groups.
You will have to go quite far to find a friend as special as Merise . . .
