As we write, things are slowly changing, as restrictions are beginning to be lifted all over the world. Like in our last issue, it’s a letter from all of us and we’ve shared some photos of how we’ve been working from home in lockdown; some of us with our pets who’ve been both the perfect companions and distractions.

Our Global Issue cover story is testament that good design stands the test of time – in this instance for the global design director of Google in Silicon Valley. We talk to Australian designers and architects in ‘A Different Corner’ about taking their aesthetic to a global audience and the challenges they face.

In ‘Australian Design 2020’ we talk to a different group of designers on how they’re recalibrating after having their plans to show in Milan and ICFF upended by a pandemic.
We enter the incredible homes of Gabriele Salvatori in Milan and Pierre Yovanovitch in the French countryside, plus we visit Villa Mandra in Mykonos designed by K-Studio and stop by in Belgium; a perennial design favourite location.

In issue #35, we reflect on past, present and future design. Beginning with a minimalist interpretation of a rural Belgian farmhouse, we move on to the reinvention of a distinctive 1980s family home and a pared-down penthouse on Queensland’s coast. We look to the future with the ongoing evolution of everyday design through Kasper Egelund, from Denmark’s Vipp and a group of notable interior designers and architects who are turning their talent to furniture design.

We’re also celebrating summer in the southern hemisphere with our outdoor living essentials edit and Longer Days to Dance playlist for balmy evenings by the sea.

In Issue #34, we explore the idea of restoring and transforming our personal spaces to suit our ever-changing needs. From our exclusive feature on the family home of Melbourne designer Ali Ross to B.E Architecture’s restoration of an art-filled, heritage home; we discover how each has reshaped a new internal harmony.

We also take an inside tour through the private homes of architect Rob Mills and brand manager of Fredericia Furniture, Katya Falkenberg. And in the spirit of reconceiving the old, we take a walk through three individual homes, each highlighting a unique alteration and addition by Australian designers; Benn + Penna, Mim Design and Templeton Architecture.

We’re living in an age where multi- disciplinaries know no boundaries and hyper-pollination describes the fusion between design, architecture, landscape, fashion, art and craft. With these ideas front of mind, we turned our attention to capturing what it means to live globally and went in search of design that straddles disciplines and pushes into new frontiers.

In true est fashion, Issue #33 provides a showcase of brave and innovative design that voyages across continents to deliver a compendium of cleverly designed international spaces, people, product and places. Take off with us as we explore an architectural concrete home overlooking a Greek cliff by OOAK, a picture-perfect American summer house on Rhode Island by Studio Giancarlo Valle and a revived Dutch estate in the Netherlands by Studio Niels.

Life happens in the kitchen. The space where cooking, eating and family activity have long been intertwined, and so often the place where we reflect on our fondest memories shared among family and friends – it really is the heart and hub of the home. More than ever before modern, open plan homes have also led to a piqued interest in kitchen spaces and so we’re beyond excited to share with you issue #32 From the Heart.

We (obsessively) went deep to build you a dedicated issue packed full of global kitchen creativity. We’ve hand-picked spaces that are personal, curated, thoughtful and multi-functional.
