Spring, sandwiched between winter and summer, is a transitional season short for springtime or springtide1 meaning, “A tide just after a new or full moon, when there is the greatest difference between high and low water.”2 This is why spring or springtide symbolises a significant change, rebirth or a new season of growth.

There’s space in our circle ready for you, so sit around our beach fire, stare into its flames, breathe in the salty air and kungullanji “The Six Pillars”, the foundation of every surfing life: Travel, Boards, Culture, Waves, Technique, and Surfers.

Winter, an old Germanic word meaning “time of water”,1 is when surfers enjoy the glories of groundswells and crisp offshores. Earth tracks around the sun on its elliptical path. From June to August, night dominates, temperatures fall to their lowest, and we sip our hot brews to quiet our primal struggles. The winter solstice marks the earliest sunset and longest night of the year: Southern Hemisphere ( June 22) and Northern Hemisphere (Dec 22).
