Welcome to the very first edition of Survivor Car Australia magazine! At SCA we feel that it is time to highlight and present a section of the car fraternity that has been slowly emerging and capturing people’s attention and interest.
What makes Survivors cars so attractive and intriguing is simply their rarity. Whilst thousands of customised, concourse and restored cars are on display at many car events around the country on any given weekend, very few Survivor cars are evident. What makes Survivor cars so appealing is their true original unrestored condition. You can restore a car a dozen times, but you can’t unrestore it. They’re only original once. Paint chips and scratches, dings and scrapes, worn stitching in seats and pit marks in the chrome. All of these battle scars give a Survivor car patina and character which not only tell us the story of its life, but also differentiates it from a restored or modified car. These Survivor cars are automotive treasures which are ‘worn in’ not ‘worn out’.
Whilst some Survivor cars have simply been neglected, others have been lovingly looked after. And yet still some have been well maintained as daily drivers. Survivors cars are now drawing increased attention, and consequently this has seen a rise in their value. Enthusiasts love to swarm over Survivor cars simply because they are gloriously ordinary! Potential buyers go to extraordinary lengths to confirm the provenance of a Survivor car before purchasing it. An on-site inspection is just the beginning. Documentation such as original paper work, owner’s service books and photographs tracking the history are highly prized. Original paint work, matching numbers engines and original parts are carefully scrutinised and verified for authenticity.

Survivor Car Australia is a bi-monthly feature magazine dedicated to bringing unrestored Survivor cars to the forefront and give them the long overdue praise and appreciation that they richly deserve. It doesn’t matter if you are a one-eyed Holden enthusiast, a fanatical Ford fan, a Chrysler nut or a lover of any other make of old cars because when it comes to Survivor cars we are all brothers-in-arms, banded together in our appreciation for these unique cars. They’re only original once!
