In this issue, we bring you something really special. Australian built Chevrolets are rare nowadays but what about an original, unmodified and unrestored 1957 Chevrolet 104... what’s a 104? I hear you say... This car is a real working museum piece and deserves its Survivor Car status. Mopar fans will enjoy the Green-Go Charger, it really is a child of the psychedelic 1970s! For Holden fans how about strawberries ’n’ cream, a white HD wagon with a striking red interior, this baby is a true one owner Elite Survivor. For a touch of European class we have a beautiful Mercedes 280CE coupe that was purchased by the original owner when she went out to buy an air-conditioner! 
Plus, there are some real gems in our regular segments as well. So grab your favourite beverage, get comfortable and relax reading some of amazing stories of Survivor cars in this issue.

In this issue we have a rare VH R/T E49 Charger Survivor in Alpine White fitted with an unusual blue interior. This car was a special order for a very eccentric gentleman who had a particular liking for white cars. In fact he had a stable of them. Also in the issue we feature a fantastic Plum Dinger XU-1 Torana which turns out to be a prototype, one of the first made! Anyone wanting to know what a near new Falcon GT was like should read the story on the Red Pepper XB GT. This XB has only covered a ridiculously low 27,719 kilometres since new and is literally ‘out of the box’. We wish we could somehow bring you the ‘new car’ smell but you’ll have to take our word for it.

In this issue we’ve gone out of our way to find ‘Elite’ Survivor cars and we think you’ll agree that we’ve uncovered some gems. To kick off this issue we profile an Orchid Metallic HQ Monaro with a 253 and 3-on-the-tree as standard. This beauty was owned by one careful owner for the majority of its life which explains the almost mint condition that it is in today. Continuing the ‘pink’ theme is a Wild Plum XA Fairmont with a white vinyl roof that continues all the way down the bootlid! It is quite impressive that this car survived intact and wasn’t customised like many other Ford hardtops from that era were. For something different we discovered a totally original Turquoise Jaguar E-Type V12 roadster that is in mint condition with only 11,612 miles on the clock. This big cat was personally imported when new and probably the most original unrestored example of this marque left on the planet.
What would you do if you bought a new Pacer for yourself after scrimping and saving and promised a dear friend that it would be their wedding car, yet three days later it was rolled at 90mph?

Welcome to the very first edition of Survivor Car Australia magazine! At SCA we feel that it is time to highlight and present a section of the car fraternity that has been slowly emerging and capturing people’s attention and interest. 
What makes Survivors cars so attractive and intriguing is simply their rarity. Whilst thousands of customised, concourse and restored cars are on display at many car events around the country on any given weekend, very few Survivor cars are evident. What makes Survivor cars so appealing is their true original unrestored condition. You can restore a car a dozen times, but you can’t unrestore it. They’re only original once. Paint chips and scratches, dings and scrapes, worn stitching in seats and pit marks in the chrome. All of these battle scars give a Survivor car patina and character which not only tell us the story of its life, but also differentiates it from a restored or modified car. These Survivor cars are automotive treasures which are ‘worn in’ not ‘worn out’.
Whilst some Survivor cars have simply been neglected, others have been lovingly looked after. And yet still some have been well maintained as daily drivers. Survivors cars are now drawing increased attention, and consequently this has seen a rise in their value. Enthusiasts love to swarm over Survivor cars simply because they are gloriously ordinary! Potential buyers go to extraordinary lengths to confirm the provenance of a Survivor car before purchasing it. An on-site inspection is just the beginning. Documentation such as original paper work, owner’s service books and photographs tracking the history are highly prized. Original paint work, matching numbers engines and original parts are carefully scrutinised and verified for authenticity.
