The word “reinvention” often goes hand in hand with new beginnings because it provides a chance for a fresh start without any baggage from the past. Yet, for a while now, fashion has struggled with bending its rules, preferring to take carefully calculated risks and balancing longevity with stagnancy. But things are different for Berlin-based brand Kasia Kucharska. Named after its eponymous founder and creative director, the label is so young that there are no rules or regulations, no past and no precedent. This gives it the freedom to think out of the box, which is certainly what it does as its clothes references the past and look to the future, for the wearer who lives in the present.
The creative brain of the three-year-old label lies in the designer herself Kasia Kucharska. She spent her childhood in the German Alps before heading to Berlin to earn a degree in Interior Architecture. While she was drawn to clothes growing up, fashion was not Kucharska’s immediate first choice. It took a period of time spent designing retail concepts for fashion brands to finally convince her that it was not the environment she wanted to produce, but the garment itself.
