With over 30 years of diving experience, Mr Chan is fully committed to raise public awareness of the impact of ghost nets, and inspire more people to join his cause.
It is estimated that about 136,000 dolphins, seals, turtles, countless fish and other small marine life get killed annually by ghost gear. Ghost nets or ghost gear are abandoned or lost fishing equipment. They float through the ocean, trapping and killing marine life, snagging on boats and even threatening divers. A self-proclaimed ghost net hunter, Harry Chan has been spending the past decade pulling out discarded fishing nets and other gear from the ocean to clean the waters and beaches around Hong Kong.
