We need a perfect structure for Grand Slams

Every tennis player dream of playing in the Grand Slams, but even today Indian participation in the main draw is very limited. To change the scenario, we need systematic planning, says ace tennis player Rohan Bopanna.

In an exclusive interview with Sports Champ, he spoke about various issues.

"There are many international tennis centers in different parts of the country and around the year several tournaments are conducted. But this is not enough. I feel that there is a need for perfect structure for the development of the players if we wish to see more Indian players in the Grand Slams," he said.

"Systematic planning is necessary for the proper development of the players. Still, in our country, parents give importance to the educational qualification of players. Naturally, sometimes players have to give less importance to the competitive game and discontinue the practice sessions. This really affects the overall career of the upcoming player. The gap of a few months from the competitive game is really a big hurdle in the progress of a player. Sustainability in competitive practice is necessary."

Well-planning is the key

It is mandatory for Tennis players to participate in ATP and other ranking tournaments to gain international ranking points. They have to plan these competitions in such a way that there won't be physical as well as mental fatigue and also no burden of excessive financial expenditure. If this planning is done properly, then it is said that you have won half the battle of tour matches. For keeping a constant ranking at the international level, consistency and sustainability are important, says Bopanna.
