HERE at Newmarket it has a real end of season feel with the mornings dark, damp and chilly but there are still a lot of horses in full training still, a lot of the fillies have really started going in their coats and showing winter is on the way. I love picking the wild mushrooms that pop up out on the heath at this time of year and taking them home for breakfast.
It was great seeing FRANKEL voted the People's Champion and favourite ever racehorse in the Racing Post recently beating the likes of Kauto Star, Desert Orchid, Red Rum and Denman. Now 15 years old, Frankel is looking in great form as my photo shows when I was with him recently up at the stud. Jockey Tom Queally told me he was so pleased to see the great horse get the winning vote and he makes regular visits to Banstead Manor stud to see his old partner.
Shane Fetherstonhaugh, who rode Frankel in his work, also goes to the stud to see the horse.
