Teacher faces jail for sex with boys

A TEACHER faces jail after being found guilty of sexual offences against two of her pupils.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, groomed one boy with a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre before taking him back to her apartment and having sex with him when he was 15. She then fell pregnant with another teenage pupil.

Joynes met the two boys through her job as a teacher at a Greater Manchester school. She has previously been sacked. The school cannot be named for legal reasons.

Her lawyer said Joynes had ‘let herself and her family down’, but she denied all the offences. But a jury found her guilty on all charges in unanimous verdicts they returned yesterday. The families of the teenage boys burst into tears and audibly gasped upon the verdicts being delivered. Joynes looked emotional during the process.

Jurors at Manchester Crown Court heard that Joynes took the first boy, Boy A, to the Trafford Centre and bought him a £345 Gucci belt from Selfridges. She then brought him back to her apartment in Salford where they had sex, when he was 15.

He had previously told his mum that he was staying over at a friend’s house, when he was in fact staying the night at Joynes’ flat. He later told his friend that he and Joynes had sex.
