Police patrols have been stepped up in Greater Manchester after two men appeared in court accused of plotting an Islamic State-inspired attack against members of the Jewish community in the North West.
Walid Saadaoui, 36, of Crankwood Road, Abram, Wigan and Amar Hussein, 50, of no fixed abode, are accused of plotting to carry out a deadly attack.
The two men are alleged to have plotted a terror attack designed to cause multiple fatalities using automatic weapons in the North West of England, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.
Stephen Watson, chief constable of Greater Manchester, said efforts to protect Muslim and Jewish communities had been going on for some time since the October 7 attack by terror group Hamas prompted a conflict in Gaza and beyond which is estimated to have cost tens of thousands of lives.
