A KILLER attacked a man with 'brutal ferocity' then 'dumped' his victim in an alleyway and tried to blame it on his own girlfriend.
Dean Hughes, 46, has been handed a life sentence for the murder of Shane Maloney.
Mr Maloney, 28, died 15 months after being attacked by Hughes at a house in Leigh. He suffered severe brain injuries and was left unable to walk or speak and had to be fed by a tube.
Hughes hit him over the head with a champagne bottle following a row over a mobile phone. In the aftermath, Hughes 'dragged' Mr Maloney, who was 'barely conscious' and 'dumped' him in an alleyway at the back of the house on Wigan Road.
