The drive to support deserving recipients of The Melium Group 35th Anniversary Charity Auction has seen generous art collectors taking prized works off their walls. The auction will be a rare opportunity to acquire artwork from personal collections with a value beyond a balance sheet. There is perhaps an extra dimension to these artworks, from classical to contemporary, from a provenance of trust, governed by a philanthropic tenor of life. Making up a large portion of the 80 auction items on offer, here are five pieces to look out for ... and perhaps bid on too.
‘VASE’ BY AHMAD ZAKII ANWAR
Yasmin Khan, first time and youngest committee member of the charity auction, is offering a piece simply entitled ‘Vase’ by one of Malaysia’s most collected and most respected contemporary painters, Ahmad Zakii Anwar. This exquisitely refined painting, from an important period of still life from Zakii, is a meaningful addition to any collection. Donated by the AFK Collection, “the delicate detailing and the bands of light and colour elevate the painting from a beautiful rendering of an object to a cool contemporary piece of art,” says Zena Khan, spokesperson for the collection.
