When this family approached Hansel Studio to create a Japandi-style forever home where they can comfortably host extended family, the design team knew they needed to craft a space that would be both tranquil and timeless.
The residence also needed to be elderfriendly, both to cater to the homeowners’ future needs as well as the needs of the wife’s mother, who lives with the couple.
The previous homeowners had taken several liberties with the flat’s original configuration, taking down multiple walls, adding glass partitions and repositioning entrances. “Our client requested that we restore the apartment to HDB’s original layout,” shares the project’s lead designer, Jac.
To this end, with the exception of keeping the open-concept kitchen, the team restored most of the walls and recreated the entrances to the primary bedroom and bathroom in their initial positions. A platform was also removed to ensure a more elder-friendly environment while grab bars were installed for enhanced safety and support.
