Adding a rug to the rooms of your home, particularly over a wooden floor, will add a nice aesthetic to the space but the benefits go way beyond style.

BENEFITS OF A RUG ON A WOODEN FLOOR

Understandably, you may be a little wary of covering up your lovely wooden floors, however there are so many reasons why having rugs will benefit not only the style of your home, but the overall ambience of it too. Here are five reasons why rugs are so important for hardwood floors:

1 They add warmth and insulation

2 They help prevent scratching/staining on your floor

3 They help reduce noise

4 They help to 'zone' a space

5 They add a great pop of colour/pattern

TOP TIPS WHEN USING A RUG

Rugs that have a rubber or latex backing sometimes have chemicals that can discolour the flooring underneath. To avoid this, it is advisable to use rugs with a woven backing of natural fibres. As well as being more environmentally friendly, there will be no adverse reaction between the rug and the planks underneath, ensuring the floor looks better for longer. If you're worried about the rug slipping, use a felt underlay to keep everything in place.

USE LIGHTER SHADE RUGS
